Chettikulangara is one of the most famous villages in Alappuzha district. It is believed that blessings from the world-famous Chettikulangara Devi Temple showers over the people and the land here. Location of this village is super convenient for the pilgrims to reach here from a distance as it is connected to major towns of Kerala. This village is located on Kayamkulam-Thiruvalla state highway (SH 6).

Festivals of Chettikulangara Devi temple commonly called as ‘ the Kumbha Bharani’ and ‘Ketu Kazhcha’ is conducted during the months of February and March. These festivals also conducted for the happiness of the upcoming harvest in the months of April and May because it could give the farmers a high yield. During the Ketu kazhcha they bring the huge idols of different deities for the show and are taken around the whole village by hundreds of people. Finally, at the night they keep the deity of the goddess in the paddy field to give rest for her. The idols are around 100 to 150 feet in height and are taken in massively decorated giant chariots.

This wonderful worshipping practice by Chettikulangara people is followed since 800AD.  It goes without saying that the associated festival called ‘Kuthiyottam’ is a cherry on the top of cake here. The preparation for Kuthiyottam takes long term practice and the wonderful dance movements in beautiful coordination provide joyful moments to the viewers. They are proud to announce that this festival awaits its cherishing moment from the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to receive the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) status award for its 1200 years old traditional and cultural practices in this temple.
